Quinta da Fornalha (Furnace Farm), located in the municipality of Castro Marim and partially inserted into the Sapal de Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António Nature Reserve, is a family business that develops a series of activities related to the surroundings in order to create an economy based on the sustainable use of available resources as well as the respect and maintenance of ecosystems and existing cultural traditions.

In the central building of Quinta da Fornalha, the store is a showcase of all its productions and transformation from raw materials obtained in their fields.
At a time when the producer / farmer receives little for their hard work, and that processors and distribution channels have most of the profit of the final product, new strategies must be developed to allow the survival of small farms. Here we chose to bet on the high quality creative transformation, diversification and the use of the entire chain of subproducts. In this context, the fig is king: is sold fresh; if too mature, it becomes compote; if it is small, we dried it; if it smashed, we crush it; if it is sour, we make brandy. In the end, nothing is lost, everything is transformed.
