Casa de Artes e Cultura do Tejo – CACTEJO is a centre that presents and promotes artistic activity in Vila Velha de Ródão municipality.

In its gardens you can see two fossil trunks of the species Annonoxylon teixeirae, from Miocenic (15–5 million years), an example of a flora typical of wet and hot climates and the most important fossils discovered in this municipality and some of the few of this species found in Portugal. It has insect marks (holes) never described before in Portugal and also not very well known worlwide. From the coffee shop you can have a great view of the Tagus

CACTEJO has cultural and artistic events such as movie sessions, theater, dance, exhibitions and concerts.

The building combines traditional materials such as shale stone used in a traditional way and wood, with modern materials such as dark zinc or metal grids, with large windows, creating scenographic effects.

  • Access to the Center by:

    - IP2 or IP6 – take exit 19 direction Vila Velha de Ródão. At the roundabout with N242, take M545-1 (direction Tavila/Gavião do Ródão). Pass the two villages and continue to Rua da Fonte and follow to R. de Santana. There follow the signs to the Center that is on the right; or

    - N18 (coming from south) – passing the bridge over Tagus river, at the beginning of Vila Velha de Ródão, turn right. On the first cross take left to R. de Santana. The Center is on the left.
