The Interpretation Center of the Tagus Valley Rock Art (CIART) has two exhibitions, including one on Ródão archeology and other on Tagus rock art. It works in the Municipal Cultural and Development Center of Vila Velha de Ródão, in the old building of the Town Hall, in Largo do Pelourinho (pillory square). The construction date is unknown. Upstairs was the Town Hall until 1973, while the jail (see the windows with iron bars) was on the ground floor.
The Tagus Valley Rock Art Complex, with over 20,000 prints on the banks of the Tagus, is one of the most important European collections of post-Paleolithic art. Dating from 20,000 years BC to the late Bronze Age and executed almost entirely by pecking, the engravings represent geometric, anthropomorphic and zoomorphic symbols. Over 90% are submerged by the reservoir of Fratel dam, being visible only in Perais area and downstream of Fratel dam.
