In front of the House of Arts and Culture of the Tagus, in Vila Velha de Ródão, on a slope next to the parking lot, you can see this site resulting from an reverse fault that put in contact quartzites from the Ordovician (to the west and constituting part of the Eastern flank of the syncline of Ródão) and sedimentary sand-conglomerates of Cenozoic.
Cenozoic - the most recent geologic Era from 65 million years ago.
Conglomerate or puddingstone - sedimentary rock formed by lithified beds of rounded gravel mixed with sand.
Fault –cracks in the Earth's crust where movement occurs on at least one side.
Reverse fault – it occur when the crust is compressed and the hanging-wall block moves up and over the footwall block.
Ordovician –after the Cambric period, from around 500 to 435 million years ago. It is known by its marine diversity.
Paleozoic - geologic time era lasting from 540 to 250 million years ago.
Quartzite - metamorphic rock consisting largely of interlocking quartz grains.
Syncline – fold concave upward in which each half of the fold dips toward the trough of the fold.
Tectonics - study of rocks deformation that make up the Earth's crust and the forces that produce such deformation at a global scale.
