Vale do Rossim (landscape and river beach)

At about 1300 m high, this place has the reservoir of the dam of Rossim valley and a magnificent landscape with large granite blocks and forest vegetation consisting of Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris), birch and Douglas-fir. This hydroelectric plant, with an average year production of 28 GWh, was completed in 1956 and accumulates water from the Fervença stream and, along its banks, can be found several amphibians (frogs, toads and salamanders).

This is one of the landscape and natural ex-libris of Estrela mountain along with the Torre plateau, the glacier valley of Zêzere, Penhas Douradas and Penhas da Saúde. Take a walking tour to better know this space.

The river beach of Vale do Rossim was one of the "7 Wonders - Beaches of Portugal", and the one in the highest place in the country.
