'Covão do Boi' and 'Senhora da Boa Estrela'
Share Image
In 'Covão do Boi' is the largest set of pedunculated and columnar blocks of the Serra da Estrela, resulting from erosion and known locally as 'queijeiras' (cheese-makers). There's a panel explaining the geology of this place.
Here one can also admire the patron of the shepherds, the 'Senhora da Boa Estrela (''Lady of the Good Star'), with more than 7 m high, carved in the rock of Cântaro Raso in low relief, by António Duarte, and inaugurated in 1946.
From this place it is possible to see the 3 granite outcrops known as Cântaros Gordo, Magro and Raso (meaning fatty, lean and shallow), that reach, respectively, 1,875 m, 1,928 m and 1,916 m of altitude.
