Eremitério "Os Santos” (Saints Hermitage) consists of a chapel in ruins and a shelter with hagiographic frescoes (with the life of saints - hence the name) executed in the 16th century in the place known as São Paulo, in the vicinity of the chapel of the same name, at about 700 m and closer to the river. The hermitage has the date of 1553 and the chapel kept inscribed the date of 1596. It is on the border of Sendim and Picote parishes, on a place where sculptures and cave graves were identified, a sign of the sacred character of the area and the continuity of rituals and worship that took place there.
These little hermitages were related to the practice of eremitic life, but also with devotion itineraries.
Frescoes - painting on a wet plaster on a ceiling or wall, so the colours can penetrate the plaster and become fixed as it dries.
Hagiography - biography of a saint.
