Almofala ruins (Casarão da Torre)
Share Image
Almofala tower is an enigma even in its names, such as Almofala Tower, Eagles Tower, Friars Tower, Tower House, and Aguiar Tower or, as mentioned in Middle Ages documents, Turris Aquilaris.
The tower is only the most visible part of a set of ruins that stretches from the top of a gentle slope hill and down its southern slope near Almofala village, being visible from the road connecting this locality to Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo. It is a Roman temple that later, in the Middle Ages, was adapted to a watchtower.
