• Moimenta, in Bragança district, is on the extreme southeast of a vast plateau between the foothills of the Coroa mountain range in Portugal and the Spanish sierras at an altitude of 885 m.

The name of this village comes from the Latin term monumenta, refering to something from the past, such as megalithic monuments, tombs, graves, old fortifications and prehistoric structures. In this sense, it seems clear that the village owes its name to the Castro of Cigadonha, a little below the village, to the south, or to a dolmen (anta) that has already been destroyed, but it has found a way to show its existence by lending its name to a water course called ribeira d'Anta that runs next to the village.

The houses surprises the visitor by the compact nucleus of crude granite constructions and gable roofs, with contrasting shades with the colour of the surrounding landscape and demonstrating the harmonious integration of the people into the environment.
