Corvos dam (birdwatching)
Share Image
In an region where water is scarce, the dam of Crows is an oasis for wildlife and is ideal for birdwatching. Among ducks, grebes and herons, this was one of the few places in Portugal where the Lapwing, a wintering bird and also known in Portugal as “ave-fria” (cold bird), has nested, and is also a great location for Black-bellied Sandgrouse. In winter, see (with binoculars, of course) Northern Pintails, Gadwalls, Northern Shovelers, Eurasian Teals, Mallards and Common Pochards.
In Spring, watch the elaborate courtship of Great Crested Grebe and see some couples of Red-crested Pochard. Among the Cattails, listen to the Great Reed-warbler and the Cetti's Warbler.
Other birds - Common Moorhen, Common Coot, Grey Heron, Little Grebe and Common Snipe.
