• Single plant, circular, slightly tapered with exterior irregular stone set, isolated, rising next to an outer path between a marsh and the base of a small hill, this simple monument, from the Islamic period, passes unnoticed to many. However, it is was part of the coast guard system that have existed over 5 towers in the village of Luz de Tavira. Among the ancient watchtowers that still remain in the Algarve coast, te Aires Tower is the easternmost, having been deployed in long-range visual location - is located in front of the Pitch Pine, one of the few points of the coast where it was possible to cross the sandy cord that protects the coast between Faro and Cacela. These towers also served to alert the population through fire (at night) or smoke columns (by day) on the approach of suspicious vessels, hence they are also called almenaras, word of Arabic origin meaning lighthouse or beacon.
