Granaries of Soajo
Share Image
The granaries of Soajo rise on a massive granite outcrop that acts as a natural threshing-floor, hence the designation of Eira do Penedo. There are twenty-four granaries of Galician-Portuguese (Minho region) type, built using the local raw materials (granite) and still in use today. They have in common the low and elongated body, and differ from each other by the the form of the sidestones that support the cover, the staddle stones and the lintels.
