• Arranged in a half-moon cove, protected from the north winds by mountains and surrounded by abundant vegetation mantle, this beach of white sand and clear waters is an old fishing spot now known as desirable place of recreation and leisure. Our Lady of Arrábida Fort (1676), also known as Santa Maria Fort and altered in the eighteenth century to defend the Sado navigation and Arrábidos friars of berberescos pirates raids, an oceanographic museum complements and explains the local biological marine wealth. In front of Portinho cove lies the Anixa Stone, a rock split in the middle and surrounded by sandy bottoms a witness of an already vanished coastal line and housing around it evident plant and animal diversity (over than 200 species of seaweed and marine invertebrates have been identified here). Since 1998, Arrábida / Espichel coastline is classified as Marine Park. All the surrounding area of Portinho da Arrábida, including Conventinho and the oaks forest, is classified as IIP - Imóvel de Interesse Público (Public Heritage).
