Alcobertas Spring (Olho de Água)

In this limestone region with abundant groundwater, but little on the surface, Alcobertas water source is a small oasis, one of the few places in Aire e Candeeiros Sierras Nature Park, where water, in relative abundance comes to the surface throughout the year.

Used by animals and people, who traveled several kilometers from neighboring villages like Chãos and Casais Monizes in search of water always in the region, the freshness of this spring and the small picnic area invites you to rest.

  • Access to Alcobertas from:

    - Porto de Mós – N362 (direction Alcanede). After 17 km (more or less) in Valverde (near one of the traffic lights) turn right (direction Casais Monizes / Alcobertas. There’s no sign so you have to ask the inhabitants)*; or N243 followed by N1/IC9/IC2 (direction Turquel/ Rio Maior). In the cross to Redondas turn right instead of left. Follow to Vale de Ventos and there turn right to R. do Barreiro. Continue to Casais Monizes.*

    *In Casais Monizes take Av. Principal and continue to Alcobertas by R. do Bairro Social. Turn right to a road and, just before a sharp bend, turn right to R. da Ponte Forte. The water source is on the left at the end of this street.

    - Rio Maior - R. Principal just to Alcobertas and then turn left to R. do Olho de Água just to end where is the spring.
