Martinhal Beach - waders and Roman ovens
Share Image
Sand beach with tall dunes and marsh vegetation related to Mós stream where several waders can be seen.
In the cliffs, there are remains of a fish salting factory and ovens of Martinhal Roman site, one of the largest known pottery centers of the Roman province of Lusitania (amphorae and tiles production - fourth century).
On this beach, in May 1587, the privateer Francis Drake landed 800 men to attack Sagres fortress.
