Menhirs of Pedra Escorregadia (Slippery Rock)

About 1 km SW of Vila do Bispo thers’s a set of 3 fallen menhirs, called “menires da Pedra Escorregadia” (menhirs of Slippery Rock) classified as public interest. Carved in white limestone, the largest, which have given the name to this place, has a vertical strip in relief consisting of three ellipses cut by a cord also in relief. One of the menhirs has also a gravure incised (an ellipse) segmented by a major axis.

Near the menhir can be seen a mass grave type "cista" with vertical stones, defining the grave, that had more than 10 human bodies.

    - Vila do Bispo - take N268, an old road linking Vila do Bispo to Sagres, towards Horta do Garcia (Monte Salema). After Família Pedro house (which is on the right side of the road), at km 29.2, turn left and go under the overpass. Park a little further. Take a dirt road on your left and climb to the top of the hill. There and some meters before will find some pieces of menhirs.
