Fossil dune (Mareta beach)

The remains of this fossil dune shows that sea level have been much lower than today. The sand accumulated during Quaternary (the geological era in which we are and that began about 1.6 million years) and originated the dune, that has been eroded by the sea and by the rain.

- Lagos / Vila do Bispo - N125. Continue to N268. Near Sagres, turn left onto street N Sra. da Graça. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Mareta beach street. Turn right.

In the morning and at low tide, you can see better the remains of the fossilized dune. You can see it also from Sagres fortress.
