Interpretation Centre of the History of the Moorish Castle and ‘S. Pedro de Canaferrim’ Church
Share Image
It is assumed that the church of 'São Pedro de Canaferrim', one of the most important Romanic chapels, was built in the 2nd half of the twelfth century. Partially rebuilt by D. Fernando II, which gave it the appearance of false ruin. Two chapiters are, today, in the Carmo Archaeological Museum in Lisbon.
In 2015, it was opened here the Interpretation Centre of the History of the Moorish Castle, with some of the pieces discovered nearby, dated from the Neolithic period, 5000 BC, to the Middle Ages, tenth to eleventh century, as well as a model of the Moorish Castle and it’s surroundings, a video about the history of the place and tablets with interactive multimedia information in several languages about the pieces.
