Headquartered in the Gardens of Queluz National Palace, the ‘Escola Portuguesa de Arte Equestre – EPAE’ (Portuguese School of Equestrian Art), founded in 1979, promotes education, practice and dissemination of traditional Portuguese Equestrian Art. Descended from ‘Real Picaria’, equestrian academy of the Portuguese Court of the eighteenth century, saving up to today the same type of horse (Purebred Lusitano of the Stud stable of Alter Real, old stables of the Portuguese Royal Family, founded in 1748 by King João V), the same riding , harness and costumes. So, it preserves a single equestrian cultural world heritage.
