• These wetlands located on the southern slope of the Sintra hills, are popular for recreation and leisure. The reservoir of the Mula river has the European Pond Turtle (Emys orbicularis), a species in decline, whose native populations of Sintra-Cascais Nature Park may be extinct, with an occurrence at this location justified by the possible reintroduction from specimens originating from captivity.

Here you can see birds like the Common Woodpigeon (Columba palumbus), the Coal Tit (Parus ater), the Long-tailed Tit (Aegithalos caudatus),the European Serin (Serinus serinus), the European Robin (Erithacus rubecula), the Common Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita)  and several others little birds. Try to see the Eurasian Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus). At the Mule River dam (barragem do rio da Mula) you can see the Cirl Bunting (Emberiza cirlus) and sometimes the Grey Wagtail (Motacilla cinerea).
