PR4 À volta do montado
Share Image
The “montado”: the holm oaks; acorns; cereals; herds of pigs; and lots of wildlife. This path runs in a typical Alentejo landscape, predominantly “montado”, in this case with holm oak (Quercus rotundifolia). Although resulting from human activity, the “montados” are ecosystems with high biodiversity, with not only typical species of this biotope but also others common to thickets, bushes and even urban areas, such as the Partridge, the Common Hoopoe, the European Turtle-dove and the White Stork. At the end of the path is the largest reservoir of the Guadiana Valley Nature Park, the Tapada Grande, near Mina de S. Domingos, where you can observe water birds species, such as the Common Moorhen, Common Coot and Little Grebe.
