Next to the road, before starting the route, see the Mezio large dolmen, part of the megalithic necropolis. This trail starts next to Mezio gate in the National Park. It is in an area that in the middle of the 20th century had some changes made by the Forest Services, thus presenting some diversity of plant species, although some are non-indigenous (i.e. not natural from this part of Portugal). The route also has elements of archaeological heritage, since it is in the area of Mezio Megalithic Necropolis, being possible to see several dolmens, one of which relatively well conserved (the great dolmen of Mezio). There are also elements of a more recent human occupation, representative of the agro-pastoral economy once dominant in the region. Trail also for young children and for environmental education activities.

Download the leaflet, but attention because the actual trail does not coincide entirely with the one on the leaflet. However, the trail is all signalled, so just follow the signs.

This footpath is in an area hit by forest fires (August 2016).

Access to Arcos de Valdevez from:

- Porto - A3 (Porto - Valença) or N101 from Braga to Arcos de Valdevez

- Spain: A3 (Valença - Porto) or by national roads, entering in Portugal by Valença, Monção, Melgaço or Ponte da Barca.

 

In Arcos de Valdevez, take EM530 to Mezio.
