Trilho das Masseiras - O Vento e o Homem
Share Image
Apúlia area, under the wind influence, is characterized by the existence of two forms of culture with extraordinary landscape impact. Alongside the shore on the dune strand, windmills dominate the ocean rich in sea urchins, European Seabass, labyrinths of seaweeds including brown seaweeds (Sargassum spp), The last ones are withdrawn from July to September to serve as soil fertilizer. In the interior, the varied set of fields of “Masseiras” alternates with the forests, among which we can identify native habitats of Oak oak, Sobreiro, Amieiro, Salgueiro, Loureiro and Pilriteiro. To the south, a variant of the route leads to the lagoon of Apulia, whose plant community consists of reeds, reeds and boards, besides the alluvial willow forest associated with it and the diverse avifauna that rests there, feeds and reproduces. Masseira - meaning kneading trough, because the fields have that format. In fact they were excavated in the dunes to protect the crops from the sea winds.
