Share Image
This trail is halfway between Vila do Bispo and Castelejo beach in the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Vicentina Seashore. The route passes through several kinds of beautiful landscapes dominated by stone pine. Forestation began in 1958, but there are still species previous to it, such as Mastic Tree, Evergreen Buckthorn, Kermes Oak, the Strawberry Tree and the Butcher's Broom. Along the path we can also find Cistus with sticky leaves, Rosemary, Gorses and a unique Thyme, that only exists in the Southwest of Portugal. In terms of fauna there are the Wild Rabbit, the Fox, the Weasel and the Wild Boar. Here live birds such as the Partridge, the Sardinian Warbler, the Dartford Warbler, the European Goldfinch, the Common Chiffchaff, the European Greenfinch, the Eurasian Jay and the Great Spotted Woodpecker and several tits. Among migratory birds you can find the European Turtle-dove, the European Bee-eater and the Robin. Many animals such as fish, frogs and water-snakes live in the lagoon, used also by and dragonflies as a breeding site.
