• Salgueirão (big willow) trail begins in Quintanilha village and goes along the border line and the Maçãs River. It has a total length of 13 km but has a shorter version (6 km), the so-called "Colado trail". Near the beginning, in Quintanilha, see the village agricultural fields, where the vegetable gardens and the olive grove stand out. Soon after, we came across the woods with Kermes Oak, Cork Oak and some Chestnut trees. Rabbits and hares are often present here, as well as the Golden Eagle and the Northern and Black-eared Wheatears. The riverside area is leafy and fresh, with tall trees, standing out the alders and ash trees. This is a good habitat for White-throated Dipper, Black Stork and Otter. A more attentive stop on Maçãs River waters will allow you to observe its small fish (chubs, nases, or barbels), some river mussels or even the most elusive Pyrenean Desman.
