Trilho da Cascata da Faia d'Água Alta
Share Image
A small route that allows you to admire the typical landscape of the Douro cliffs, having as most interesting place the waterfall of Faia d'Água Alta with about 60 m of height. From the beginning and heading east (clockwise), it crosses the Lamoso stream through the pedestrian pontoon and zigzag down the slope. From here you can see the whole valley of Bemposta river, with its slopes covered with Broom, Juniper and Holm Oaks bushes. There are also traditional olive groves and traces of water mills and mills. At the end of the descent, on the Lamoso river bridge, see the riverside vegetation (dominated by ash trees), the rocky cliffs about 60 m high and Faia da Água Alta waterfall (during the wetter periods). From this bridge begins the climb to the end and highest point (510 m). In addition to the plant species already mentioned, you can see the Terebinth and the European Nettle Tree. As for the fauna, the otter, the European Roe Deer, as well as the Egyptian Vulture, the Griffon Vulture, the Eurasian Eagle-owl and the Red-billed Chough find refuge here, to mention only the most relevant species.
