Rota da Azenha (PR VIII - R3)
Share Image
Small pedestrian route of cultural and landscape interest, in the protected area of the Lagoons of Bertiandos and S. Pedro d'Arcos. It begins next to “Quinta de Pentieiros”, an agricultural and forestry farm, acquired by the Municipality of Ponte de Lima, which can be visited for a symbolic value. It has several equipment for accommodation, recreation, leisure and demonstration of agricultural and forestry techniques. In terms of heritage, stands out the Pentieiros house, of which it was lord "Gonçalo de Sousa Menezes" and during the 17th century, had the same “morgado” as Bertiandos, Francisco Pereira da Silva. In Estorãos, visit the parish church that had several additions throughout the centuries and Estorãos River, on which passes a magnificent bridge that many say is Roman, but is a 16th or even 17th century construction. On the riverbank, is a watermill recovered and functioning now as a rural tourism unit an example of the many that have used the river source of energy. A final note for the Four Hands statue, symbol of the union of four parishes - Estorãos, Moreira do Lima, S. Pedro de Arcos and Sá - facing in the past serious economic problems. “Morgado” - a lesser aristocratic title of the Portuguese aristocracy, now extinct. “Morgadio” were the estates associated with that title.
