The lagoon trail is part of the network of small-route paths of the Bertiandos and S. Pedro d'Arcos Lagoons protected area, starting at the Environmental Interpretation Centre. It allows you to enjoy the unique landscape of S. Pedro d'Arcos lagoon and to know its natural values. Part is on a raised wooden walkway allowing to cross the north and east limits of the lagoon, a rare biotope in the origin of the classification of the protected area as a Wetland of International Importance. To the west the area is dominated by a forest area and, to the east, by an arboreal vegetation forming a protection strip to the lagoon. It is also possible to observe a small bog where the Drosera spp., an insectivorous plant, occurs. On the lagoon opposite side are natural pastures, subjected to extensive periods of waterlogging and, since they are hedged with oaks, alder and willow trees, form a "Bocage" type landscape, which in Portugal is only found in the Aveiro area. Along the way there are 2 observation points for waterfowl species, such as the Grey Heron, mallard, Common Moorhen, Little Grebe and Western Water Rail among many others throughout the year. Although it can be done all year round, spring / summer are excellent as the water lilies bloom, creating a magnificent setting. It is also in this period that species of Rush as Purple Loosestrife and other shrubs are more visible being and quite important for birds, amphibians and arthropod species by providing shelter, feeding and nesting conditions.
