The Centro Ciência Viva do Alviela - Carsoscópio (Living Science Center of Alviela) is an interactive space for scientific and technological dissemination, integrated in the Network of Living Science Centers - National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture. Recently founded as a non-profit scientific and technical association, the Alviela Living Science Center has as founding members the Ciência Viva - National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture, the Alcanena City Council, the Leiria Polytechnic Institute and the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests, IP.
This structure, located in the complex of the springs of Alviela, intends to valuing the immense natural heritage of the source of Alviela river and surrounding area, simultaneously functioning as a strategic resource for scientific dissemination and environmental education. In addition to the interactive exhibit, it acts as a promoter of temporary exhibitions, scientific events and ludic-pedagogical activities indoors and outdoors, offering to the visitors the most diversified experiences of harmonious communion between Science, Technology and Nature. Its valences also include support for scientific, technological and speleological exploration, as well as support for training and reception.
