The Cultural and Environmental Interpretation Centre of Cova Mill is in a former watermill next to the river beach on Sever River, at Portagem village in Marvão region. The conversion of this old mill into interpretation equipment allows to reproduce, interactively, an old and highly important activity for the region: the cereals grind.

 

This building has 2 floors, formerly mill on the lower floor and miller's house on the upper floor. Nowadays, the lower floor has a permanent museum and interactive exhibition that allows you to know and relive the past and to better understand the history and the daily life of a grain mill with a few hundred years.

 

On the top floor is the Terrius store (a Natural.PT member ), a local company devoted to the valorization of local products, such as Marvão Chestnut PDO, Maçã Bravo de Esmolfe IGP, and the Mushrooms of the São Mamede mountain range. In this commercial space you can find some of the best delicacies in the region, the best wine and handicrafts that exist in northeast Alentejo.

    At Portagem park, as access to the mill is only done on foot. The river beach is close to the roundabout at Portagem.
