Built in the sixteenth century on the access door to the old medieval harbor, the Misericórdia church, keeps an interesting religious art collection, with the body of the church, the sacristy and other annexes functioning as exhibition space. The statuary, painting and religious ornaments collection, presented here, is the product of the collection made over the last 20 years in churches and chapels of the county, given the poor security and the state of disrepair that they had suffered. Among a set of three dozen pieces carved in wood, polychrome, we highlight some belonging to major European schools of the sixteenth century, being, however, most result of the work of regional workshops.
