This Information Centre plays a very important role in the dissemination and development of natural and cultural heritage of the Serra da Estrela. Here you will find the most valuable and updated information about this protected area.

Manteigas is a typical mountain village with around 2,800 inhabitants, mainly dedicated to agriculture, forest and sheep breeding, textile (now with innovative projects), sawmill and water industries, tourism and services. Located in the Zêzere valley, it is surrounded by magnificent mountain scenery.

In Spring try to see the Pallid Swift (Apus pallidus) and Eurasian Crag-Martin (Ptyonoprogne rupestres) nesting there.

Visit the various monuments and relax, exercise or have a snack at the Leisure Park of S. Sebastião. If you are a bicycle fan visit Manteigas ATB Center.

    - Gouveia - N232, about 26 km at a sharp turn, cut right into a forest road. After 2.3 km turn right. Continue for 1.2 km to the Forest Service Road, after 350 m turn left to stay on this street. After 450 meters, turn left to Rua (street) Dr. Sobral. *


    - Covilhã by N239 / N238, take the Rua Benguela, for 1.2 km. Continue straight to Rua Dr. Sobral. *



    * Continue to R. Vasco da Gama. After about 160 meters, turn right onto Rua Marcos Bernardo Leitão. After 85 meters, turn right onto Rua 1º Maio. The center is on your left.

    Note: 1º de Maio street has one-way only.
