Managed since 1993 by the oldest Portuguese NGO - Liga para a Proteção da Natureza, in Herdade de Vale Gonçalinho, part of Castro Verde Special Protection Area (Natura 2000 Network), this center has an area of 1,700 ha. Here several projects to protect steppe birds and to conciliate human activities with biodiversity are developed, as well as environmental education activities. Pre-book a guided tour, on foot or by off-road vehicle, for birdwatching, to see Great and Little Bustard, Eurasian Thick-knee, Black-bellied Sandgrouse, Montagu's Harrier, Lesser Kestrel, Northern Lapwing, Eurasian Golden Plover, Corn Bunting…
It has an auditorium (for 40 people), an Environmental Documentation Center with multimedia material, an exhibition area, traditional products and an environment workshop to carry out experiments on cereal steppe where it is located. It also has a logistic support area for the technicians who carry out scientific studies.

- Beja (47 km) - IP2 (E802) and N2 or N18, N2 and N123;
- Mértola (51 km) – N123;
- Faro (100 km) - IC4, N125-4, A22 and N2;
- Évora (126 km) - IP2 (E802) N2 and N123;
- Lisbon (192 km) - A2, IP2, N2 and N123;
Go to the roundabout with the ore sculptures to take the road parallel to IP2 that gives access to Vale Gonçalinho. This one is about 8 km away from Castro Verde.
