• Peniche’s bobbin lace museum

  • Museum dedicated to the study, conservation, enhancement and dissemination of Peniche’s Bobbin Lace. Probably from the 17th century and passing from generation to generation, this art is the ex-libris of this region in terms of handicraft and cultural heritage, recognized in Portugal and abroad and winner of numerous awards. Originally it was practiced by the fishermen’s women who, at the door house, danced the bobbin in their hands, giving live to intricate pieces that they sold, thus complementing the fishing scarce income. Today, this art is maintained and renewed thanks to the lacers that continue to create beautiful pieces, combining tradition with innovation.

Exhibitions, workshops for children and training for adults. Guided tours for organized groups and access to the documentation center by prior appointment.
