In this place there was a church of the 14th century, also dedicated to Saint Lawrence, but by 1570 it was completely demolished to give way to the Mannerist temple we see today, formed by the juxtaposition of two rectangles: that of the nave, which is longer; and that of the main chapel. The facade has the bell tower on the right side.
See the 16th century pulpit and the main altar, both with breccia (a type of limestone) from Arrábida, and the blue and white tiles of the 18th century, especially on the main chapel sides representing biblical scenes, attributed to the atelier of António and Policarpo de Oliveira Bernardes (father and son), one of the most important ones of the time in which it had its creative exponent (XVII-XVIII), especially in tLisbon. The tiles of the nave, possibly of another author, are part of the great production work of the reign of King João V The Magnanimous (he reign from 1707 to 1750), while those of the baptistery walls (place where is the baptismal font) are more recent. It also has several graves, some of the 16th century, with inscriptions. On the main altar there is also an altarpiece in gilded carving (17th century) and a painting representing the Christ’s Last Supper.
From 1947, the church underwent works, including conservation of the tiles, having been dropped the triumphal arch and completely replaced the pavements and roofing.
