The Museum is divided into two distinct sections: on the ground floor shows the historical component and the technical procedures for carrying on the Manufacturing of Portalegre’s Tapestries; and on the 1st floor are presented tapestry works following the development of this art, from its birth in Portalegre, in the late 40s of the twentieth century to the present day.
There can be seen the works of a wide range of national and foreign authors who have made tapestry in Portalegre, among which stands out Almada Negreiros, Guilherme Camarinha, Maria Keil, Júlio Pomar, Vieira da Silva, Maria Velez, Costa Pinheiro, Sa Nogueira, Lourdes Castro, Eduardo Nery, Menez, Graça Morais, José de Guimarães or Jean Lurçat and Le Corbusier, among many others.
The museum also has a temporary exhibition gallery and an auditorium for 150 people. The cafeteria, the foyer and the garden are complementary spaces for public enjoyment, with adaptability to various recreational and cultural activities.
