The origins of the Archaeological Museum of San Miguel de Odrinhas retreat to the Renaissance, probably when Francisco de Hollanda decided to gather around the old Chapel of St. Michael, a considerable number of epigraphic monuments found on the Roman ruins still visible then on site.
Materials related to human occupation, for over 6000 years, in Sintra territory, Roman monuments, lintels Visigoth, medieval tombs and other epigraphed tombstones (ie with inscriptions) are showed here. It also has the only three Etruscan sarcophagi existing in Portugal, brought from Italy.
Includes the Hermitage and the Ruins of São Miguel de Odrinhas, a Roman villa classified as property of public interest (Imóvel de Interesse Público) by Decree No. 42692 of November 30, 1959.
