• Park and National Palace of Pena

  • The Park and the Pena Palace (National Monument), in the hills of Sintra and result of the creative genius of Fernando II, are the epitome of Romanticism of the nineteenth century in Portugal, with architectural references to Manueline and Moorish influence.

Architects: Willhelm Ludwig Eschwege; and Nicolau Pires.

The Palace was built to be seen from anywhere in the park, is surrounded by forest and lush gardens with over five hundred tree species from all over the world.

Here we can find from magnificent Feteiras – sets of tree ferns from Oceania - to huge redwood forests from North America.

The plants were placed carefully, having regard to its ecology.

National Monument part of the "Cultural and Natural Landscape of Sintra ", included in the World Heritage List
