  • Here you can see two types of rocks in different geological contexts, separated by about 120 million years. In the lower section there are schists originated in marine sediments, with about 320 million years ago (Carboniferous). In the upper section, layers of sandstones and clays generated by deposition of river sediments, some 200 million years ago (Triassic), are arranged horizontally over the schists, previously folded inside the Earth's crust. The contact between these geological features is called discordance.
