    - Sintra (± 17 km) - N247 and N9 to Cheleiros. From there, follow the R. do Chafariz de Peniche, then cut to the left to Penedo do Lexim.

  • If you teach geology, this is an excellent place to show an old and well preserved volcanic chimney and the basalt forms, namely prismatic columns, generally pentagonal or hexagonal (with 5 or 6 faces), formed by the rock contraction due to fast cooling. This old conduct, about 72 million years old, is part of the Lisbon Volcanic Complex. From this high point, you can see several other conducts of old volcanic chimneys.

     

    This site has also archaeological interest being classified as Property of Public Interest, being one of the most relevant sites of Mafrense Archeology and Peninsular Chalcolithic, having, between the IV and III millennium b. C., i.e. from the late Neolithic to the Bronze Age, being inhabited by an agro-pastoral community.
