Access to Barca d'Alva coming from:
- North - N221 or N325, road to the bridge Alm. Sarmento Rodrigues;
- South - N221; or
- Spain – CL-517 and N221.
In Barca d'Alva, on the riverbanks:
- north - a few meters from the bridge over the Douro river; and
- south (GPS: 41.027515, -6.939463) - on the pedestrian path next to the river, which runs towards Spain

One of the rare areas in the Douro Valley with fluvial terraces, which can be seen here on both sides.
A fluvial terrace (alluvial or stream terrace) is a deposit of sediments, generally with cobblestones, conserved in the margins of a river or stream, resulting from the fact that, in the past, that river had run at a higher level.
