  • This is a dense shrub, that can reach 2 m in height. The leaves are small and acuminate. The flowers appear in March, separately in female and male individuals. The fruit is about 1 cm in length, globose to piriform, reddish when ripe.

  • Occurs in shrub areas on sandy soils, sometimes associated with coastal pine forests, and also in frontal dune. Can form junipers woods.
