The Eurasian Reed-warbler is a small passerine bird with a pointy head, elongated beak, long tail and brown plumage, as is the colour of the reeds which it inhabits, it exhibits a lighter ventral surface and grey to brown legs. It can measure up to 14 cm long.

The reed warbler inhabits medium to large sized reeds. It is represented in the symbol of the Lagoas de Santo André e da Sancha Natural Reserve.

Spring and Summer

The reed warbler feeds on insects, spiders, small snails and occasionally vegetable matter. It obtains its food on the thick vegetation.

The Portuguese population of this species is estimated to be between 2500 and 10 000 couples.
