The European turtle dove is a bird with a slender and compact body, relatively small head, and wide and pointy wings. It has a brownish orange colouration with a mesh pattern and grey, on the dorsal surface, and white and pink on the ventral surface, exhibiting black and white stripes on its neck, a black and white bordered tail and orange eyes highlighted by a red ring. They have a uniform plumage, brown and grey. It can grow to be 27 cm long and have 55 cm span.
