  • The spotted crake is the biggest crake in Europe, despite being a small sea bird. It exhibits a brown plumage with dark sports on its back and white dots on its ventral surface, a robust yellow beak and green legs. It can measure up to 22 cm long.

  • The spotted crake lives on moist areas with dense aquatic vegetation such as bogs, ponds and estuaries. 

  • Autumn and Winter

  • The spotted crake has an omnivorous diet, feeding on small invertebrates, aquatic plants and occasionally on small fish. The food is obtained in shallow or muddy waters.
