  • The greylag goose is a big and plump waterfowl, it has a grey colouration with white stripes on its beck, and a white belly. Its beak and legs are orange. It can grow to be 84 cm long and have 168 cm span.

  • The greylag goose exists in estuaries, pastures and shallow waters, both fresh and salt water, such as quagmires, flooded areas and swamps. In our country it is most common on the Tejo estuary.

  • The greylag goose has a vegetarian diet, feeding on the roots, leaves, stalks and fruits of several plants.

  • The Portuguese population of this species is estimated to be of 2600 individuals.
