  • The Cory's Shearwater is an emblematic sea bird of our coastline, it has long and arched wings, yellow beak and a greyish brown plumage which is lighter on its belly. It can grow to be 56 cm long and have 126 cm span.

  • The Cory's Shearwater lives at high sea searching for isolated islands and islets to reproduce. It can be observed at sea from land along the Portuguese continental coast. It has a characteristic vocalization which resembles a frogs croak. 

  • Spring and Summer

  • The Cory's Shearwater feeds on fish, cephalopods and crustaceans, which it obtains at high sea.

  • The Portuguese population of this species is estimated to be between 980 and 1070 couples.
