The Iberian Emerald Lizard or Schreiber's green lizard is a reptile with a robust appearance and long tail. It exhibits a general green colouration, with black dots, or brown with big dark spots, and a yellow belly. In the mating season its throat exhibits a blue colouration. It can measure up to 12,5 cm long counting its head and body.

TheIberian Emerald Lizard or Schreiber's green lizard inhabits relatively moist environments, from agricultural mountain valleys to low altitude bogs, in the margins or proximity of water courses with dense vegetable covering.

The Iberian Emerald Lizard or Schreiber's green lizard feeds on beetles, ants, flies, mosquitoes, spiders, other invertebrates and occasionally on wild fruits.

It is estimated that the Portuguese population of this species is in the tens of thousands of individuals.
