The Bosca's newt is an amphibian with small prominent eyes, round body, slender limbs and a flat sided tail. It presents a brown, green or yellow colouration with dark spots on its back and an orange belly. It can measure up to 9 cm long.

The Bosca's newt exists in a large variety of habitats, such as meadows, woods and agricultural areas, using several water masses, such as rivers with aquatic vegetation and weak current, ponds, lagoons, tanks and reservoirs.

Bosca's newt feeds on small aquatic invertebrates, in its larval stage, and on worms and slugs on its terrestrial adult stage.
