The greater mouse-eared bat is the largest cave bat in Portugal. It has a brown colouration on its back and grey in its belly and big sized ears. It's body can measure up to 7.3 cm long with a 5.2 cm tail and it can weigh 34 g.

Base Characterization

The greater mouse-eared bat finds shelter, in our country, preferably in caves or mines. It hunts in agricultural soils with reduced grass and bush covering.

Spring, Summer and Autumn. However is is difficult to see because it is a rare specie with nocturnal activity.

The greater mouse-eared bat feeds preferably on beetles, crickets and spiders, which it localizes using the sound these creatures make by moving on the ground.
